When exploring the best places to visit in Moravian Tuscany, the dramatic, undulating fields are always at the top of the list. Walking or cycling through these areas feels like stepping into a living painting.

Because the beauty of our region lies in its unique terrain, the best way to appreciate it is from above. Local communities have built several incredible lookout towers that offer breathtaking panoramic vistas.

In the Neighborhood: Great Towers Just a Stone’s Throw Away

  • Na Podluží Tower (Nový Poddvorov):
An iron structure designed to resemble an oil derrick, referencing the region’s oil-drilling history. The Podluží Lookout Tower is 30 metres tall and offers an incredible view covering the Slovak border and the Austrian wind farms.
    Local Wine Tip (Prath Winery):
While visiting the tower, don’t miss the chance to discover the nearby
    Prath Winery
(Vinařství Prath). Since 2018, they have expanded their passion to crafting small-batch, low-intervention natural wines with a profound respect for nature and sustainable vineyard practices. It is a wonderful stop for anyone looking to taste pure, authentic regional flavors.
  • Slunečná Lookout Tower (Velké Pavlovice):
Located in the heart of the neighboring wine district, this beautifully
    curved tower
gives you a bird’s-eye view of endless mathematical rows of grapevines. Standing 18.6 metres tall, the Slunečná Lookout Tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of the vineyards of Moravian Tuscany, the Pálava Hills, and the Lednice–Valtice area.
    Local Wine Tip
    (
    Šlechtitelka
): Right below the Slunečná tower, you can visit the historic Wine Breeding Station (Šlechtitelská stanice vinařská), affectionately known as
    “Šlechtitelka”
. The original heritage property has been beautifully transformed into an elegant estate inspired by Tuscan architecture, surrounded by terraced vine and rose gardens. It features a stylish destination restaurant offering high-end enogastronomy and premium estate wines, including the famous André variety that was originally bred right on this historic site.

The cultural heritage of Southern Moravia is closely tied to imperial wealth, resulting in some of the most stunning architectural monuments in Central Europe.

Buchlov Castle

When looking for historic places to visit in Moravian Tuscany, Buchlov Castle is a magnificent option, even though it lies just outside our area. Note that Buchlov Castle is not located directly in the central part of Moravian Tuscany, but rather about 30 kilometers away from the town of Kyjov in the scenic Chřiby Highlands. Despite the short drive, visiting this ancient fortress is deeply rewarding. The journey leading up to the castle is incredibly atmospheric, especially during the autumn months, when you drive through dense deciduous forests completely transformed by breathtaking, vibrant golden and amber foliage. As one of the oldest castles in the country, it offers incredible historical exhibitions, deep medieval dungeons, and ghost legends.

No journey to the top places to visit in Moravian Tuscany is complete without diving deep into our underground culture. The true soul of our region also lies hidden underground. The traditional wine cellar alleys (sklepní uličky) are vibrant communities where generations of winemakers have crafted their local vintages. The wine cellar alleys featured below are all located in the heart of Moravian Tuscany. There are also many other picturesque wine villages and cellar alleys nearby that are worth a visit (Plže in Petrov and Nechory in Prušánky). Explore more in our Discover section – Wine Cellar Villages.

Búdy Wine Cellar Area (Mutěnické búdy or Pod Búdama)

The “Búdy” in Mutěnice is a legendary wine cellar “village-like” area. With nearly 500 individual wine cellars clustered together at the foot of the vineyards, it is one of the largest cellar communities in the entire country. Many of the cellar fronts are beautifully decorated with traditional colorful Moravian folk art and ornaments, making it an incredibly lively and scenic place for an evening stroll and spontaneous tastings (mainly in summer).

Šidleny Wine Cellar Complex (Šidleny Milotice)

Located just outside Milotice, the Šidleny cellar colony consists of roughly 250 traditional wine cellars lining the rolling hillside. This area has a wonderful, relaxed, and deeply authentic atmosphere where local hobby and professional winemakers gladly open their doors to passing cyclists and travelers looking to taste genuine, small-batch regional wines. If you want to combine sightseeing with active adventures, the regional places to visit in Moravian Tuscany offer an incredible playground for unique outdoor activities, artisan crafts, and memorable family adventures.

To make your journey to these beautiful places to visit in Moravian Tuscany completely perfect, keep these practical tips in mind:

  • Respect Local Agriculture: Most of the iconic viewpoints and rolling waves are located on active farmland managed by local families. Please always stay on designated paths, do not trample the crops, and respect private property.
  • Getting Around: While some spots are accessible by car, the absolute best way to hop between the hidden viewpoints, artisan shops, rail drezinas, and vibrant cellar alleys is on an e-bike, utilizing our dense network of signposted cycling trails.

From the majestic lakes of Lednice and the purple lavender rows of Starovičky to the historic depths of the Loydrák cellar and the active rail lines of Ratíškovice, exploring these places allows you to fully absorb the slow, authentic rhythm of Southern Moravia.
